How to take part

23 Things for Digital Knowledge (2024) has been created for our new students or those seeking a refresher of the digital tools, software, guidance, and knowledge provided at The University of Edinburgh. The aim is for you to spend a little time each week building up and expanding your knowledge.

The course is available openly on this WordPress site, and additionally University of Edinburgh students can email us at open.education@ed.ac.uk to be registered on the Learn version of the course. The Learn version includes progress tracking, discussion boards, and a familiar format for students.

Participant can work through the course here on WordPress or on Learn by reading through the content and doing the activities. There is also the option to register a blog with us (as part of Thing 2) and write up short blog posts about each of the 23 Things in order to evidence learning and earn a digital badge. Blogging provides a space to test out and experiment with many of the Things, to interact with other participants, and also to reflect on what it is that has been learnt. The blog also serves as an object to demonstrate your learning, and as evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Register your blog with us here.

University of Edinburgh students can choose to earn a 23 Things for Digital Knowledge Digital Badge. Register your blog, complete the readings, activity, and a written reflection (min. 400 words) on each of the course Things, then submit your blog for review and validation.

Follow along online, join in and share on social media with our hashtags (#23ThingsEdUni), and reflect in your own blog. How you interact with the course is entirely up to you.

You can choose to sign up to the 23 Things for Digital Knowledge mailing list.

The mailing list emails provide overviews of the Things, notification of when 23 Things events are scheduled, and any updates to the course.
